  • Is this platform only for public schools?
    No. Rate Your Principal is a resource for all schools with principals. This includes public, private, and charter schools.
  • Who can submit ratings and reviews?
    Ratings and reviews can be submitted by teachers and select staff at the current school where the principal works.
  • How do I submit a review?
    To submit a review, simply navigate to the "Let's Get Started" button at the top of our website and select "Rate Your Principal". Fill out the review form, which includes a rating scale and a section for written feedback. All submissions are moderated to ensure they meet our community guidelines.
  • Are reviews anonymous?
    Yes, all reviews are anonymous to protect the identities of our users and encourage honest and open feedback. We use a carefully designed verification process using open-source data about your school to ensure you are a current staff member but do not save or track the data once a review has been submitted.
  • What is your verification process?
    We use updated employee lists received from schools and your district email address to automatically check that you are a current employee of the school you are trying to post a review for. This information is obtained from public records in each state.
  • How are the principals rated?
    Principals are rated based on three criteria: school administration, school culture and climate, and interpersonal relationships. Users can rate these aspects individually and provide an overall rating.
  • Can a principal respond to a review?
    No, at this point principals are unable to respond to reviews.
  • Do you have any rules about what I can post?
    We expect your review to be based on facts and firsthand experiences. Each observation should be a truthful reflection of events or interactions, ensuring integrity and accuracy in the information shared. We will not post any reviews that contain any form of violence or hate speech.
  • How can I report a review I believe violates your guidelines?
    If you encounter a review that you believe violates our guidelines, please use the "Report" button associated with that specific review. Our moderation team will review the report and take appropriate action.

  • Why can’t I find my school?
    If you are unable to locate your school in our database, it may be due to a recent update or an oversight. Please contact us with details about your school so we can ensure it is added promptly.
  • I just posted but don’t see my review, where is it?
    We delay every review posting by 3-5 days to ensure complete anonymity. If you still don’t see it posted after a week, either reach back out to us or check your email in case further verification is needed.
  • Do you ever post unverified reviews?
    No, every review that goes live is from a teacher who has been verified as an employee under the principal mentioned.
  • I am a parent, student, or other stakeholder, why can’t I write a review?
    Our platform is designed to collect reviews exclusively from teachers and select school staff to ensure the feedback is based on professional interactions and experiences within the school environment.
